The Detroit Public Library (DPL) is the biggest effective library system in the state of Michigan. Edison Library is one of the main Library and its 23 neighborhood branches make it one of the most valuable and accessible public institutions in metropolitan Detroit. Currently, the Detroit Edison Public Library consists of 10 subject departments and a number of collections. There are subordinate branch libraries and a bookmobile service for the community available in the library. The library is an independently governed by municipal corporation (a seven-member Detroit Library Commission), whose members are appointed by the Detroit Public Schools Board of Education. The seventh member is the current president of the Board of Education and is an ex-officio member.

The Edison Branch offers programs for all ages starting from pre-school to adults. This Program offered family storytime, and crafts. This branch has a wide excellent collection of adult and juvenile books, including bestsellers, and an extensive African-American collection. The Detroit Edison Public Library is the home of some of the greatest collections of materials in Michigan. Many of collections are used nationally and internationally like Burton Historical Collection include Creation on the foundation of Clarence M. Burrton’s private library, Hackley Collection, are named after a Detroit music educator and performer, and focuses on the contributions by blacks to the performing arts, Located in the Rose and Robert Skillman Branch Library of the Detroit Public Library, the National Automotive History Collection (NAHC) is regarded as the nation's premier public automotive archive. Digital Collection with Online services has collection of topics such as Drawing Power: An Exhibit of Motor City Ad Art in the Age of Muscle and Chrome, The Making of Modern Michigan, The Lincoln Collection, and many more. The new going events at the Detroit Public Library in the month of December are the events which are programmed in different categories which include one of the main events underlined as

• Children's Library which have special introductory discussion on topics like Teens Mother and Daughter Book Discussion, Preschool Story Time, Computers for Kids.
