Parent/teacher conferences are held in the fall and again in the spring which provide a valuable opportunity for the school and home to work together to establish the teamwork necessary to help the student to be successful. It is an important responsibility to participate in these conferences. Support service teachers will be available during conference time for parents of students receiving services such as speech, resource room, etc. Special area teachers, including art, music, physical education, life skills, and media information will also be available to meet with for discussing your child’s progress. Student Hours: Starting From 8:50 - 3:40, AM Half Days: 8:50 - 12:00, PM Half Days: 12:30 - 3:40 Student Services include educational programs like Reading Recovery and Literacy Leader - Taft- Galloway has a Literacy Leader who teaches the Reading Recovery Program provides in class literacy instruction, helps with student assessment, and is a curriculum leader in reading and writing instruction. It provides one on one reading instruction for 30 minutes every day for one semester and, according to research conducted, results in the prevention of possible reading failure in the future. Special Education-Special education programs and services are available to eligible students in Michigan from birth through high school graduation or age as appropriate. It is for children who have disabilities that severely affect their educational performance in the general education classroom and therefore need special education support. Service can range from homework or seating accommodations and/or modifications to physical, occupational, or speech therapy, or to placement in a special program or school. Psychologist and Social Worker Services- The School Psychologist and School Social Worker are involved in evaluations for special education purposes, crisis intervention, teacher and parent consultation, and may provide support through individual or group services. Extended Day/ Extended Year Experiences- Taft- Galloway students who are found to be at risk in a particular area may be referred to our extended day or extended year program run by district staff.When attendance issues arise with the students Taft utilizes the Wayne County Eras Truancy program. This program utilizes law and educational resources to help keep students in school. |
